Tata Motors, Tata Steel top gainers - Tata Motors, Tata Steel, SBI were among the biggest gainers, jumping up to 2.5%. Infosys, HCL Tech was among the losers, shedding more than 1% each.

Reliance Nippon Gains After Japanese Promoter Ups Stake Shares of the asset management firm rose as much as 3.1 percent to Rs 258.80 apiece. Nippon Life Insurance increased its stake by 10.59 percent to 53.46 percent., according to an exchange filing. Nippon will continue to run the company and its operations without any change in its structure and management, the filing added.

Small Finance Banks Gain After Report Of Relaxation Of Promoter Holding Norms Shares of parent firms of small-finance lenders gained after Reserve Bank of India may allow promoters to offload their holding fully after five years, according to an Economic Times report, citing unidentified sources. Shares of Equitas Holdings rose 6.7 percent, the biggest intraday rally in five months, to Rs 11.90 each. Shares of Ujjivan Financial Services surged 7.9 percent to 296.85 each.

Rupee surges 32 paise to 71.70 against US dollar in early trade
The currency settled at 72.02 to the US dollar, the lowest closing level since November 14, 2018, even as equities spurted more than 700 points at close on stimulus measures.

UPL Gains After JP Morgan Initiates Coverage Shares of the agrochemicals maker rose 3.7 percent to Rs 569.95, its highest price in three weeks. Brokerage firm JP Morgan initiated its coverage on the stock with an ‘Overweight’ rating. It also fixed the target price at Rs 700, indicating a potential upside of 27.3 percent from the previous close.

Stock Market News - FDC share price at 52-week high on GMP certificate from UK health regulator

The certificate came after a recent inspection of the company's facilities in Goa. FDC  share price touched a 52-week high of Rs 222, rising more than 5 percent in the morning trade on January 3 after the company received the good manufacturing practice (GMP) certificate from the UK's health regulator. The UK's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency also continued with its approved status for the company's two facilities in Verna, Goa. The GMP certificate was issued after a recent inspection of the two plants. At 1018 hours, FDC was quoting at Rs 218.00, up Rs 7.30, or 3.46 percent. Budget 2018 was the last full-fledged budget presented by the government led by Narendra Modi. Long Term Capital Gains (LTCG) tax on profit earned from the sale of equity shares listed on a recognized stock exchange in India. The LTCG tax was re-introduced after a time gap of 14 years.
