Stock Market News - HDFC, TCS Top Losers, Shoppers Stop Gains

HDFC, TCS Top Losers - Shares of HDFC, TCS were among the biggest losers, shedding up to 0.60% in the morning trade. Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank shares are trading marginally higher.

Shoppers Stop Gains -  After Aditya Birla MF Increases Stake Shares of the retail-store chain rose 3.3 percent to Rs 508.95. Aditya Birla Sun Life MF increased stakeholding to 7.01 percent from 5.01 percent in the company. according to its disclosure on stock exchanges. Trading volume was more than 130 times its 20-day average, according to Bloomberg data. The stock traded at 35 times its estimated earnings per share for the coming year.

Graphite India Falls - The Most In Nearly Two Weeks Shares of Graphite India fell as much as 3.7 percent, the most since June 21, to Rs 316.55. The company received a nod from Karnataka State Government to close Bengaluru plant. The production has been closed since Feb 21. On April 3, the company’s board approved a proposal to permanently close operations in the Bengaluru plant.

Block Deal Alert: 

1.  ITC About 10 lakh shares of ITC changed hands in a block deal on National Stock Exchange, 

2. Bharti Airtel, Eros International Bharti Airtel: About 30 lakh shares changed hands in a block deal. Eros International: About 12.8 lakh shares changed hands in a block deal.

Kalpataru Power Gains - On Stake Acquisition Plans Shares of Kalpataru Power Transmission rose as much as 3.7 percent to Rs 551.40. The company’s board approved acquiring 19.94 percent stake in Shree Subham Logistics for Rs 64.66 crore. With this acquisition, the company holds a 100 percent stake in the target company.

RBI imposes a penalty on UCO Bank: Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 50 lakh for non-compliance of RBI directives on "KYC Norms/AML Standards/CFT/Obligation of banks and financial institutions under PMLA 2002" and also on "Opening of Current Accounts by Banks - Need for discipline".

TOP GAINERS & LOSERS

BPCL, IOC, IndusInd Bank, UPL, Asian Paints are among the major gainers on the indices, while losers are Vedanta, Tata Steel, Hindalco, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, ONGC, HDFC, Eicher Motors, and Indiabulls Housing. On the sectoral front, IT, metal and FMCG are trading marginally lower, while buying seen in the auto, infra and energy space.

Rupee Opens: The Indian rupee opened higher at 68.85 per dollar on Wednesday versus previous close 68.93.

Stock Market News - Yellow metal hits fresh record high as Iran attacks US forces

On the MCX, gold contracts for February were trading higher by Rs 562, or 1.38 percent, at Rs 41,225 per 10 gram at 0920 hours. It hit a record high of 42,278 per 10 gm. India Gold February futures hit a fresh record high on January 8 tracking gains in international spot prices which surged past $1,600 an ounce mark after Iran fired rockets at Iraqi airbase which hosts US forces that triggered risk-off sentiment. Spot prices hit their highest since March 2013 at $1,610.90 earlier in the session. US gold futures rose 2 percent to $1,605.80. “The jump in the price of what’s viewed by investors as a safer asset in times of political and economic uncertainty came after Iran’s missile attack on US-led forces in Iraq early on Wednesday,” said a Reuters report. “The attack came hours after the funeral of an Iranian commander whose killing in a US drone strike has raised fears of a wider conflict in the Middle-East,” it said.
