Market Update - VEDL, Tata Motors top gainers ; SRF falls

VEDL, Tata Motors top gainers - Tata Motors shares zoomed by more than 4% to Rs 182, while VEDL shares jumped more than 4% to Rs 191. Bank of Baroda shares are higher by more than 2% to Rs 131.35, after the firm’s merger with Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank is effective today. 


L&T bags orders: Larsen and Toubro have won a large order from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) in the range of Rs 2,500 to 5,000.

Vedanta, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, UltraTech Cement, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Auto, Eicher Motors, M&M  are among major gainers on the indices, while losers are Cipla, HCPL, BPCL, IOC, ONGC and Zee Ent. Except for energy, all other sectoral indices are trading higher led by metal, PSU bank, auto, infra, IT and pharma.

Intellect Design Arena Gains-  After Winning Its Highest-Ever Deal Shares of Intellect Design Arena rose as much as 5.6 per cent to Rs 214.80. The company won a large multi-million deal from one of the top 20 banks in North America, according to its stock exchange filing. This deal is significant to Intellect as this is the highest ever deal won by the company, the statement added.

SRF Falls -  The Most In Over Six Months After Receiving Orders To Shut Dahej Plant Shares of SRF fell as much as 9.6 per cent, the most since Sept. 21, 2018, to Rs 2,172.

Infosys Pare Reverses -  Opening Losses After A Block Deal Shares of Infosys reversed their opening losses and rose as much as 0.72 per cent to Rs 749.20. About 16 lakh shares of the company changed hands in a block deal during the pre-market trade.

Stock Market News - Yellow metal hits fresh record high as Iran attacks US forces

On the MCX, gold contracts for February were trading higher by Rs 562, or 1.38 percent, at Rs 41,225 per 10 gram at 0920 hours. It hit a record high of 42,278 per 10 gm. India Gold February futures hit a fresh record high on January 8 tracking gains in international spot prices which surged past $1,600 an ounce mark after Iran fired rockets at Iraqi airbase which hosts US forces that triggered risk-off sentiment. Spot prices hit their highest since March 2013 at $1,610.90 earlier in the session. US gold futures rose 2 percent to $1,605.80. “The jump in the price of what’s viewed by investors as a safer asset in times of political and economic uncertainty came after Iran’s missile attack on US-led forces in Iraq early on Wednesday,” said a Reuters report. “The attack came hours after the funeral of an Iranian commander whose killing in a US drone strike has raised fears of a wider conflict in the Middle-East,” it said.
