Union Budget- Sensex, Nifty Open Higher ,Vedanta tumbles 14%, Rupee Opens Flat

The Budget announcement with Nifty holding above 10,850 level.

The Sensex is up 83.63 points or 0.23% at 36340.32, and the Nifty up 29.30 points or 0.27% at 10860.30. About 458 shares have advanced, 275 shares declined, and 34 shares are unchanged. 
Dabur, Bharti Airtel, UPL are trading higher, while Vedanta tumbled 14 percent. Banking stocks including Bank of India, OBC, Bank of Maharashtra gained 4-14% after RBI lift the lending curbs.

Piyush Goyal, the interim finance minister, is going to present the interim budget for 2019-20 in parliament today.



Vedanta tumbles 18%: Shares of Vedanta fell around 18 per cent on Friday morning as investors turned wary of the stock after financial results. Vedanta has reported a 21 per cent on year decline in third quarter consolidated profit to Rs 1,574 crore due to lower commodity prices and shutdown of copper smelter at Tuticorin. Revenue from operations during the quarter dropped 2.8 per cent to Rs 23,669 crore compared to year-ago. The sequential profit was up 17 per cent and revenue up 4 per cent.

Oil prices edge higher
US oil prices edged higher on Friday, recovering from losses of nearly 1 per cent in the previous session, as data showed major exporters are quickly reducing output in line with a supply cutting pact. WTI futures were at $53.96 per barrel at 0009 GMT, up 17 cents, or 0.3 per cent, from their last settlement.


The rupee ended 4 paise higher
The rupee Thursday edged higher by 4 paise to 71.08 against the US dollar amid weakness in the greenback in overseas markets after the US Fed kept interest rate unchanged.

Stock Market News - Yellow metal hits fresh record high as Iran attacks US forces

On the MCX, gold contracts for February were trading higher by Rs 562, or 1.38 percent, at Rs 41,225 per 10 gram at 0920 hours. It hit a record high of 42,278 per 10 gm. India Gold February futures hit a fresh record high on January 8 tracking gains in international spot prices which surged past $1,600 an ounce mark after Iran fired rockets at Iraqi airbase which hosts US forces that triggered risk-off sentiment.
